To bury or not to bury your copy of 25 years of desktop magazine? (here with a masthead from their past)
As there opening statement on the cover of this month’s desktop magazine states: “The past, present future, now: 25 years of design publishing love. Ideas, pictures, insights, moments, caught up in a time capsule of ink on paper from people who love design like a sister, bro, frenemy or foe. A highlight of this special celebratory is that it is Guest edited by Andrew Ashton of Studio Pip and Co – a 16 page visual essay to be exact.
desktop are the epitimy of design in Australia, and we congratulate Brendan McKnight and the team at desktop for encapsulating 25 years of Australian design culture – well done.
In a collaboration with desktop, we’ve created a sticker with 6 desktop mastheads from their past to present years for their subscription recipients – starting with their initial 1986 masthead, and wow how the masthead has dramatically changed since its concept.

Bec Paton is a designer, with a Doctoral Candidate at the School of Design and teacher at the University of Technology. She engages in extensive research and educates on the following…
‘Sure we all know projects start with briefing, but briefing is actually a back-and-forth process between a client and designer. The nature of the project can change during the course of these conversations as intentions and meanings are clarified and the approach(s) to the project agreed upon. I have looked into this by interviewing expert designers, given we don’t know much about how projects are framed during briefing.’
We recently printed a business card design by Bec, for Lofty Consulting onto Splendorgel uncoated 300gsm, with the white areas (the cloud design) utilising our raised dimensional printing, with an outstanding result.

We encourage designers to conceptualise with the big picture [and also the end picture - being print!] in mind including projects crafted with attention to detail; enter INVENTORY DESIGN, a Sydney based graphic design studio who believe the success of every design outcome includes a collaborative response.
Designer Brendan Seery from Inventory has recently designed a new invitation piece for a party based in Hong Kong. With texture, colour and a glossy finish in mind, we at Digitalpress have printed the invites using our Roland UV wide format technology onto buckram stock with a uv spot finish on the coloured strips of the invite = unique printed result.
We enjoy their blog too, where the art world meets the design world in fine juxtaposition.
